In MS Word 2016, alt-F9 shows the switches for the index. {INDEX \c "3" \z "1033" \h "A"} The index switch \h "A" should cause the right-aligned index page numbers to become hyperlinks, but they are not.
I need recommendation to get the index page numbers to automatically become hyperlinks. I must not manually make them hyperlinks because any index update will undo the manual hyperlinks.

Reset to default 1The \h switch is for heading references in INDEX fields, not for hyperlinks.
Hyperlinking from INDEX fields is not supported.

For a workaround, see: https://www.msofficeforums/word-vba/36257-use-hyperlink-page-number-index.html#post117765. Note well the limitations.
