I need to build a free or very low cost website. I'm looking at Mailchimp because the website is mostly to handle a membership system.

The marketing blurb seems to suggest that it's possible to build a fully functioning eCommerce site, and the api contains hooks for things that look very eCommercey e.g

/ecommerce/stores/{store_id}/carts/{cart_id}/lines

But their website builder has no option for adding a store, and no way of adding products or having a cart. Instead they suggest integration with Shopify.

So it looks like they used to have an ambition let customers create fully functioning online stores, but then abandoned the idea, left their marketing blurb to suggest it's possible, left the api hooks in place, but pointed everyone to Shopify & similar.

Is that the case? Has anyone been able to build an online store in Mailchimp?
